FotMob, Sofascore and Flashscore alternative: Rotascore

FotMob, Sofascore and Flashscore are three of the best-known live-score names among English-speaking fans. If you want an alternative, our pick is Rotascore: a football-only app that puts everything about a match on one screen, and tells you which channel it is on.

Last updated

In short

  • Our pick: Rotascore. Live scores, xG, heatmaps, probable line-ups, TV channels and goal alerts in one football app.
  • Notifications are chosen event by event: goals, cards, VAR, kick-off, half-time, full-time and more, with an optional 30-second delay to avoid spoilers.
  • On iPhone, Live Activities put the score on your lock screen; home-screen widgets are on iPhone and Android.
  • 53 languages, one account across web, iPhone and Android, and a TV guide that shows where a match is on in your country.
  • In our own tests, goal notifications arrived on Rotascore before the other live-score apps we tried, consistently across leagues. Open two apps side by side in the same match and judge for yourself.

Our pick: Rotascore

Rotascore focuses on football only, so the screen is not crowded by other sports. Open a match and everything you would want is there beside the score: statistics, xG, heatmaps, shot map, written and visual commentary, confirmed and probable line-ups, missing players and the TV channel.

It is built for match day rather than for show. Before the team sheets drop you see the probable XI; once the match starts you follow commentary or a live pitch view; afterwards you read the game back through heatmaps and shot maps. For British fans that includes a TV guide that opens on UK channels, and a note on what is, and is not, on live TV at 3pm on a Saturday.

In our own tests, goal notifications arrived on Rotascore before the other live-score apps we tried, consistently across leagues. Speed is our priority, and you do not have to take our word for it: put two apps on the same match and watch which one buzzes first.

What you get on Rotascore

The last column shows where each feature is available. Some items depend on data: xG, heatmaps, commentary and highlights are not available for every fixture, and appear on the match page when they exist.

Switch in 5 minutes

Coming from another app, setting up takes a few minutes.

  1. Download Rotascore and allow notifications when asked.
  2. In Favourites, add your clubs and leagues. Alerts follow your favourites.
  3. Open notification preferences and switch on goals, cards and full-time. Add line-ups if you like to know the XI early.
  4. If you hate spoilers, turn on the 30-second delay, or hide the score of a match you are recording.
  5. On iPhone, start a Live Activity before kick-off, and add a widget to your home screen.
  6. Sign in to keep favourites and settings on every device, including the website.

Did you know?

Rotascore shows the TV channel on the match page and can switch country, so a fan in London, Lagos or Mumbai sees the broadcaster that applies to them. Our TV page opens on UK (England) channels by default.

It also ships in 53 languages, so goal alerts can arrive in your own language. If you follow a team abroad, that is useful on its own.

Honest notes

Rotascore is free to use and includes advertising. A Premium plan exists and unlocks some features, including some rotAI features. It covers football only, so if you want basketball or tennis scores in the same app, it is not the right tool. Some data, such as xG or commentary, is not available for every match or league.

We mention FotMob, Sofascore and Flashscore only because they are the names people search for. Try Rotascore alongside whichever app you use now, then keep the one that suits your match days.
